The Index Coop CoinDesk ETH Trend Index (cdETI) is an on-chain structured product that capitalizes on the momentum and direction of Ethereum’s price through dynamic allocation between wETH and USDC. It is powered by CoinDesk Indices Ether Trend Indicator (ETI), which provides a daily snapshot of Ethereum’s price trend based on short-term and long-term price averages.
The ETI breaks down the analysis into four pairs of short-term and long-term averages to identify the price trend, resulting in a daily value ranging from -1 to 1. This allows cdETI to adjust its allocation accordingly:
- During significant uptrends (ETI = 1), cdETI is 100% allocated to ETH.
- When the trend is neutral (ETI = 0), cdETI splits allocation between 50% ETH and 50% USDC.
- In situations showing significant downtrends (ETI = -1), cdETI is fully allocated to USDC.
By automating rebalancing based on the ETI, cdETI aims to reduce volatility for users holding ETH while maintaining potential upside from positive price movements.
