Backed is a project that brings real-world assets (RWAs) such as stocks or ETFs to blockchain. The project is unique as it issues permissionless tokens that represent ownership of structured products, which are backed 1:1 by the underlying assets and held by Swiss third-party custodians. Backed was incorporated in Switzerland in 2021 and released its first tokenized product on Ethereum in early 2023. The project aims to create a standard for tokenization and makes it possible for clients to access sustainable, low-risk yields while keeping their funds entirely on-chain. However, Backed's tokens are not marketed or offered in the U.S. or in any other prohibited jurisdiction. Notably, BlackRock, Inc., a global investment management corporation, is not affiliated with Backed nor responsible for its products.
