CoW Protocol
The CoW Protocol is a decentralized trading system that operates by executing trades in batches through a bidding process. It uses solvers that compete to find the most optimal exchange rate, which are determined by bidding to settle trades. These solvers are incentivized by receiving the exchange rate difference as a reward. CoW Protocol ensures that it finds the lowest prices across all exchanges and aggregators, protecting users from MEV, which stands for Maximal Extractable Value.
Governance & Tokenomics
The protocol utilizes the COW token, which functions as a governance token. COW token holders participate in the decision-making processes through the CowDAO, which governs the protocol's development and evolution. The token supply is capped at 1 billion, with a designed inflation rate that cannot exceed 3% per annum and can only be enacted every 365 days.
Utilization
By aggregating liquidity from various decentralized exchanges, the protocol ensures the lowest possible prices for its users. This approach also helps to minimize fees and prevent frontrunning attacks. Users do not need to sign their trades on-chain directly; solvers are tasked with finding the best option for them, making the process more efficient. CoW Protocol actively protects against MEV through its peer-to-peer matchmaking system.
