TrueFi is a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol that provides uncollateralized lending services to institutions and individuals. Developed by the TrustToken team, TrueFi allows lenders to provide capital to borrowers at predictable loan rates without requiring collaterals. Its goal is to become a market-driven, automated credit rating and lending system in the long term, offering increased responsibility to users, especially for onboarding new borrowers and approving new loan types.

The protocol uses the symbol TRU and is governed by a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). TrueFi has a long history, having originated over $1.5 billion in uncollateralized loans to trading firms and market makers during a previous crypto bull cycle. However, the protocol faced challenges in 2022 as crypto prices dropped, leading to loan defaults and a decline in its total value locked.

TrueFi has introduced several key features, including a tokenized U.S. Treasury offering and a real-world-asset-based (RWA) lending platform called Trinity. The Trinity platform allows users to borrow the TRI token by pledging tokenized real-world assets like the tfBILL token, and TRI holders can stake their tokens to earn yields from borrowing fees.

The protocol has been successful in attracting significant deposits from institutions and has a strong technical infrastructure in place to support its lending activities.
