Streamr XDATA tokenizes streaming data to enable a new way for machines and people to trade it on a decentralized P2P network. XDATA is the old token, which is undergoing migration to the new token, DATA. This migration started in mid-2021 to upgrade the DATA token and modernize its features. During the transition period, both XDATA and DATA coexist, with XDATA scheduled to be fully replaced by DATA.
Tokenization and Trading
Streamr tokenization aims to create a market for real-time data. This allows devices such as self-driving cars to purchase and sell data from other machines and sources within the network. The decentralized P2P network ensures that data can be traded securely and efficiently.
Node Operations and Staking
Running nodes within the Streamr network enables users to earn DATA tokens through staking. Nodes receive incentives from supply inflation to secure and relay data streams, and in future milestones, delegated staking will allow token holders to stake on nodes run by others. This decentralized node structure is designed to ensure that the network remains operational even if a significant number of nodes fail or are attacked.
