Streamr
Streamr is a decentralized infrastructure project focused on transporting, sharing, and monetizing real-time data securely and scalably without intermediaries. The project aims to accelerate the development of Web 3.0 by facilitating new types of data pipelines and ecosystems, enabling decentralized applications to securely exchange data and value.
Network
The Streamr Network is a cryptographically secure, open-source, and decentralized network capable of streaming live media or real-time data at scale. It uses a peer-to-peer architecture, making it fault-tolerant, resilient to malicious attacks, and scalable. The network is designed for low-latency and secure data transmission.
Data Transmission
Streamr's technology works in tandem with companion blockchains like Ethereum, Gnosis, and Polygon, which handle identity, security, and payments. The network operates on a vendor-neutral, real-time publish/subscribe protocol for data transmission, allowing data to travel via a global peer-to-peer network.
Governance and Token
The Streamr Network uses a lightweight governance system based on community voting via Streamr Improvement Proposals (SIPs). The DATA token, an ERC-20 token, powers the incentive mechanism on the Streamr Network and is used for payments on the Marketplace. There is a total supply of nearly 1 billion DATA tokens.

Streamr supports various use cases, including:

Node Operations
Users can run a Streamr node on their Mac or PC, securing the network and earning yield on staked DATA tokens. The node's performance depends on the application workloads and mining settings, and it can be run on commodity hardware, including Raspberry Pi devices.
Development
The Streamr project was started in 2017 and is maintained by around 30 key contributors worldwide. Key decisions are made via governance voting using DATA tokens. The project provides updates through various channels, including the Streamr blog, social media, and newsletter.
