The SKALE IMA Bridge is a cross-chain BLS threshold bridge that enables users to securely transfer tokens and messages between supported blockchains. It allows for the transfer of tokens such as ETH, ERC20, ERC721, and ERC1155, as well as arbitrary messages, between Ethereum and SKALE chains without incurring fees for transactions within the same family of SKALE chains.

Principle of Operation

The SKALE IMA Bridge works by locking assets on the main Ethereum chain and burning/minting them on the target SKALE chain. This process ensures a 1:1 peg between the asset values on both chains, ensuring the preservation of custody and transfer speed.

Validation

The bridge operates with a validator set that signs messages using a BLS secret key. This validator set is the same as that used for consensus within the SKALE Network, providing security equivalent to the chain itself.

Smart Contracts

The system consists of various smart contracts on Ethereum that are responsible for different asset types:

MessageProxyForMainnet: Handles sending and receiving messages.

DepositBoxEth, DepositBoxERC721WithMetadata, DepositBoxERC20, DepositBoxERC721, and DepositBoxERC1155: These contracts facilitate token transfers.

CommunityPool: A gas wallet contract for reimbursing gas costs to the agents delivering messages.

Permissions

The system has permissioned addresses, including ProxyAdminOwner and its associated participants, who have control over the proxies of DepositBox contracts and can upgrade contract implementations.

Overall Functionality

The SKALE IMA Bridge leverages BLS cryptography, Ethereum mainnet smart contracts, and Proof of Stake consensus to provide a secure and cost-efficient transfer mechanism between blockchains.
