The SKALE Network is an open-source, decentralized network designed for developing blockchains and decentralized applications (dApps) on the Ethereum network. It was launched in September 2020 through the ConsenSys Activate platform and features a hybrid-use token called SKL. This token can be used for validator staking, delegating to validators, or deploying elastic sidechains for subscribed resources.
Features
- Token: SKL token is an ERC-777 standard token, which allows for more complex transactions, and it is backward compatible with the ERC-20 standard.
- Use Cases: Holders can participate as validators, delegators, or developers.
- Validators: Run network nodes and execute smart contracts, with rewards given out at a rate of 9.3% per year.
- Delegators: Stake tokens with validators to receive a portion of the validator's rewards.
- Developers: Deploy elastic sidechains or elastic blockchains for a period of time using a subscription-based model.
- Governance: SKL holders can participate in on-chain governance, voting on proposals to determine the project's direction.
Security and Scaling
The SKALE Network operates on the Asynchronous Binary Byzantine Agreement (ABBA) consensus mechanism, which ensures security and efficiency. Validator nodes are randomly assigned tasks, and the top security is maintained by rotating validator nodes frequently. To ensure the integrity of the network, validators must stake a significant amount of SKL tokens, which are monitored and regulated by a special smart contract on the Ethereum network.
