Marscoin is a cryptocurrency designed to support space colonization. Founded in 2014, the project aims to create a monetary system for Mars settlers. Marscoin is derived from Litecoin and has fast 2.5-minute block confirmations, ensuring convenience and security. The decentralized currency is intended to be a financial backbone for Mars settlement, enabling quick and frictionless financial transactions without the need for legacy banking systems.
To promote the Mars Society's efforts, the Marscoin project has donated coins to support non-profit activities and research projects. The value of Marscoin will increase as more people adopt and use it, supporting the Mars colonization mission. Marscoin's total coin cap is 40 million, which will be achieved by 2024.
Developed as a proof of concept for incentivizing and privatizing space exploration funding, Marscoin is an open source, global payment network that operates under its own blockchain. It is a peer-to-peer currency supporting instant transactions at near-zero cost.
