The founders of Bitcoin Gold are attempting to decentralize the Bitcoin blockchain, which they claim has become too centralised as large companies now mine the majority of Bitcoin. The founders feel that this centralisation of control is against the idea of a decentralized ledger. In response, they have launched the Bitcoin Gold project, a different version of the Bitcoin blockchain that introduces changes designed to make mining more equal and accessible. Bitcoin Gold intends to democratize mining by employing a Proof-of-Work (PoW) algorithm that can't be run on specialized Bitcoin mining gear, thereby allowing ordinary users to mine using commonplace GPUs. Despite these objectives, Bitcoin experts believe there isn't enough innovation in Bitcoin Gold to justify a stand-alone investment.
