The Energy Web Token (EWT) is the native token of the Energy Web Chain, a blockchain-based virtual machine designed specifically to support enterprise-grade applications in the energy sector. The Energy Web Chain, launched in June 2019 by the Energy Web Foundation, is operated and governed by over 25 Validator nodes from 15 countries, including utilities, grid operators, and startups. In addition to its native token, the EW Chain supports all ERC standards.

Energy Web Token Features

  • The Energy Web Token (EWT) plays a key role in maintaining and operating the Energy Web network.
  • EWT is used to compensate key network operators and allows those who hold it to pay for decentralized application services built on the platform.
  • The token provides security to the network through staking and is used to pay all on-chain transactions.
  • EWT is also used to secure and compensate validators operating the protocol’s proof of authority consensus mechanism.

Energy Web Foundation

The Energy Web Foundation is a global nonprofit established in 2017. The foundation aims to accelerate the energy transition by developing and deploying open-source Web3 technologies. It focuses on creating a more traceable, democratized, and decarbonized energy system, with projects and partnerships in various countries.
