Banano (BAN) is a cryptocurrency that was created as a hard fork of Nano in April 2018. The developers, several of whom were involved in the original Nano project, maintained significant portions of the original code to ensure cross-chain compatibility with existing libraries. This allows Banano to offer instant, feeless transactions. While much of the core functionality remains similar, the Banano developers have fine-tuned certain parameters such as Proof of Work requirements and currency units.
Banano's primary focus is on achieving easy and fair distribution. The project uses various methods to onboard new users, including mobile wallets, tipbots on major social media platforms, and potential in-real-life (IRL) airdrops. These efforts aim to make the entry point into cryptocurrency simple and accessible for new users.
Banano also explores additional features like Camo BANANO, a privacy layer, and MonkeyTalks, an on-chain messaging system.
