Secret Network
Secret Network is a decentralized, privacy-preserving blockchain protocol that enables the development of secure and private applications. Leveraging the Cosmos SDK, it utilizes the Tendermint Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus algorithm to ensure the integrity of its data and computations. Built on a layer one solution, Secret Network allows for interoperability across various networks using the Cosmos InterBlockchain Communication protocol (IBC).
Key Features
- Privacy: Nodes perform computations over encrypted data using Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) for verifiable, secure, and private processing. Users can define granular data privacy controls via programmable privacy.
- Tokenomics: The SCRT token is used for governance, transactions, and gas fees. A supply of approximately 190 million SCRT is divided into circulating and bonded tokens, with an inflation rate variable from 7% to 15% based on bonded token ratios. Validators can charge commissions on block rewards, with a floor rate of 0%, capped at 20%.
- Block Creation and Performance: New blocks are appended to the ledger approximately every six seconds, with a soft limit of 22 transactions per second. Theoretical maximum capacity is 10,000 transactions per second.
- Interoperability and Applications: The Secret Network enables the development of private smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps) that are interoperable with other blockchains.
Technologies
- Secret Contracts: Private-by-default smart contracts that allow for private inputs, outputs, and state.
- Secret Tokens: Tokens from other networks can be bridged to Secret Network and become privacy-preserving using the SNIP-20 standard.
- Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs): Hardware specification for all validator nodes that ensures nodes cannot view computations within the trusted environment.
Governance
- Governance Model: Governance proposals and on-chain management are completely decentralized, empowering the community to shape the project's direction.
- Community Fee: A 2% fee on block rewards directs funds to the Community Pool, supporting decentralized governance and ecosystem development.
