The project, Backed, brings real-world assets such as stocks or ETFs to blockchain rails, for example, a product called bNIU which tracks the price of Niu Technologies stock. It issues permissionless tokens (bTokens) that represent ownership of structured products, and these tokens are 1:1 backed by the underlying assets. The project was formed in 2021 in Switzerland due to the clear regulations provided by the Swiss DLT Act. It released its first tokenized product on Ethereum in Q1 2023 and now supports issuance and redemption on many different blockchains. The project's next goal is to create a standard for tokenization with a network of protocols benefitting from RWAs on-chain. bTokens provide clients with access to sustainable, low-risk yields without needing to off-ramp crypto to fiat or go through mainstream onboarding processes. Notably, Backed does not sell its tokens to US persons.
