Anchor Protocol is a decentralised finance (DeFi) protocol developed within the Terra ecosystem. As its name suggests, it aims to offer network users a system of collateralised loans. The protocol generates rewards for both the lender and the borrower, who is assigned an annual percentage rate (APR). Both operations involve the use of stablecoins, collateral, and tokens on the Terra chain.

Key Features

Anchor Protocol is structured to provide depositors with:

• High, stable yields on Terra stablecoin deposits
• Instant withdrawals through pooled lending of stablecoin deposits
• Principal protection via liquidation of loans at risk of under-collateralization

The protocol utilises bonded assets (bAssets), which are tokenized stakes on the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain. These assets symbolize ownership of staked assets, providing block rewards toolders while retaining liquidity and fungibility. Acceptance of these assets as collateral makes Anchor Protocol a strong and unique product.

Governance Token (ANC)

The Anchor Token (ANC) is Anchor Protocol's governance token. ANC tokens can be deposited to create new governance polls, which are voted on by users who have staked ANC. ANC tokens generate a buying pressure that increases proportionally with Anchor's assets under management (AUM). Protocol fees are used to purchase ANC tokens, which are then distributed as staking rewards to ANC stakers. The total supply of ANC tokens is 1 billion, with an ongoing distribution plan over at least four years.

Functionality

The protocol allows depositors to benefit from a low-volatility interest rate. To generate revenue, Anchor lends deposits to borrowers who use liquid-stake PoS assets from other blockchains as collateral. The diversified stream of staking rewards accrued to the global pool of collateral is then converted to stablecoins and distributed to the lender in the form of a stable yield.
