Terra Protocol Overview

The Terra protocol is a decentralized and open-source public blockchain protocol. Its native staking token is Luna, which is used for governance and mining. Users stake Luna to validators who record and verify transactions on the blockchain in exchange for rewards from transaction fees.

Terra 2.0

Terra 2.0, a public blockchain, emerged from Terra Classic after the fall of the algorithmic stablecoin USTC. Terra Classic is now home to the renamed LUNC token. Terra 2.0 does not include a stablecoin and holders of the old Terra Classic chain have received new Luna native coins.

Terra Ecosystem

• Terra Core: The official Golang reference implementation of the Terra protocol.
• Terra Station: The official wallet allowing transactions, smart contract testing and interactions, and other functions.
• Terraform Labs (TFL): An entity that facilitates the development of Terra and maintains Terra Station (explorer), Terra Core, and other technical infrastructures.

Governance

Token holders can participate in treasury governance and stakers can participate in proposals and voting.

Validator Network

The Terra LUNA 2.0 blockchain uses a delegated Proof of Stake consensus mechanism. Validators with bonded Luna have varying levels of voting power. Rewards are generated through gas fees and a fixed annual inflation rate of 7%.
