Standard Tokenization Protocol is this open-source standard that is intended to define how tokenized assets can be generated, issued, and then sent or received, all whilst complying with all and any required regulations.
This protocol allows any asset to be tokenized in a way through which they can become fully compliant within different jurisdictions and transferable across any ERC-20 based platform.
Any token that is built on top of this STP-Standard can use the protocol's on-chain Compliance Validator and verify compliance with relevant regulators, such as KYC, AML, and so on, and any issuer-specific requirements.
The Validator Committee serves as an advisory function to ensure that the Compliance Validator enforces the most up-to-date legislation at any point in time.
The STPT Token Explained
The Standard Tokenization Protocol’s token or STPT is tokenized using the Standard Tokenization Protocol Standard and serves as an example of the STP-Standard asset tokenization while also powering the incentive structure, which aligns with all participants and strengthens the overall network.
Issuers can pay an initial issuance fee which will be denominated in STPT to initiate the tokenization of the asset they have chosen. Any specific requirements and parameters can be implemented into the Compliance Validator as part of the initial fee. Then there’s the compliance validator gas, where senders of any STP-standard token have to use some STPT tokens as gas, with the goal of powering the compliance validator when a transaction happens. This is then pooled and paid out to stakers and validator committee members as a reward for their honest behavior within the network.
The network even enables a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanism, where token holders can stake an amount of STPT proportional to their confidence that all of the requirements are met and can earn Compliance Validator Gas tokens in return for their honest behavior. Additionally, token holders can also delegate their stake to a token-elected Validator Committee, where the validators can earn STPT for submitting any publicly auditable proof that the Compliance Validator matches the laws of their jurisdiction or is functioning properly.
Features of Standard Tokenization Protocol
Through the combination of features of public offerings, token offerings, as well as blockchain-based smart contract programmability, STP offerings can provide specific benefits, such as automated compliance, programmability, and even on-chain crowdfunding, alongside others.
When it comes to automated compliance, the level of transparency which is provided by STP tokenization can enable real-time cap tables, public confirmation of legal compliance, clear legal guidance, and the preventative rejection of non-compliant trades through the token’s own code.
Then there's programmability, which is the ability to program value to move from one person to another if a certain condition is met, which can create value and lower operational costs. Pre-programming transfer of distribution features within an STP token can reduce the manual and labor-intensive process of issuing quarterly token distributions.
