stake.link is a liquid staking platform for the Chainlink ecosystem. The platform utilizes SDL tokens for three primary functions:
- Fee Token: Staking SDL earns a percentage of fees generated by the platform, which scales directly with the amount of LINK and rewards in the protocol.
- Governance Token: SDL holders participate in voting to shape the platform, determine future fees, and participant involvement.
- Priority Staking Access: Holding SDL provides priority access to deposit LINK at stake.link.
Protocol
The protocol supports two main pools:
- Node Operator Pool: Consists of allocations from top node operators, earning a reward rate of approximately 7%.
- Community Pool: Supports the Chainlink community pool, currently earning a reward rate of approximately 4.75%.
Features
- Liquid Staking: Users receive a receipt token (stLINK) in exchange for staked LINK, allowing for DeFi composability.
- Priority Pool: SDL holders have priority access to LINK staking allocations when additional spaces become available.
- Governance: SDL holders participate in proposing, discussing, and voting on changes and upgrades to the protocol and platform via SLURP (stake.link upgrade request proposal).
Governance Structure
- SLURP Proposal: Any node operator or SDL holder can propose changes to the protocol.
- Voting: Requiring 5 of 7 votes to pass, comprised of 7 council members representing core contributors, node operators, and community members.
- Epoch Election: Node operators and community members are elected on a 6-month cycle.
