Pendle is a protocol that enables the tokenization and trading of future yield. With the creation of a novel Automated Market Maker (AMM) that supports assets with time decay, Pendle gives users more control over future yield by providing optionality and opportunities for its utilization. The protocol consists of the following major components working in conjunction: Yield Tokenization, Pendle v2 AMM, and vePENDLE.
Yield Tokenization
Yield-bearing assets are split into the principal token (PT) and the yield token (YT), allowing users the option to earn. PT entitles the user to the principal of the underlying yield-bearing token and is redeemable after maturity. YT represents the yield component and can be traded separately.
Pendle v2 AMM
This AMM design allows both PT and YT swaps through a single pool of liquidity by implementing a pseudo-AMM with flash swaps. Users can enjoy lower slippage fees with deeper liquidity while liquidity providers earn fees from both PT and YT swaps. The AMM ensures minimal impermanent loss (IL) as it accounts for PT's natural price appreciation.
vePENDLE
vePENDLE is the locked version of PENDLE that provides a stake in the protocol. Locked vePENDLE holders accrue fees from two revenue sources: swap fees generated by all swaps on Pendle’s AMM and YT fees.
Pendle has been deployed on multiple chains, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, and BNB Chain, and has surpassed $100m in Total Value Locked (TVL) and cumulative traded volume.
