It is the only blockchain where users always participate directly by default, unlike other blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum where the default is to use a third-party node to connect to the network.

Innovative Solutions
Nimiq invented Nimiq OASIS, the DeFi crypto-fiat bridge, which enables atomic swaps between crypto like NIM and BTC (with ETH coming soon) and fiat currencies like EUR (with USD next). These swaps are facilitated without requiring any personal information, and the earned swap fees are converted to NIM and held to create scarcity.
Advanced Consensus Algorithm
Nimiq developed Albatross, a new, super fast Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm. This upgrade is expected to launch in Nimiq 2.0, the next version of the Nimiq Blockchain. Albatross promises a significant increase in performance, achieving around 1000 TPS with finality in just one second. Additionally, energy consumption is anticipated to reduce to less than 1%.
Sustainable Emission Rate
Nimiq's "super-halving" is an upcoming milestone that will reduce the emission rate from currently ~3000 NIM to only ~525 NIM per minute.
