Nervos is a layered crypto-economy network that separates the infrastructure into two layers: a verification layer (layer 1) and a generation layer (layer 2). The verification layer, known as the Common Knowledge Base (CKB), serves as a trust root and smart custodian, providing public, secure, and censorship-resistant custody services for assets, identities, and other common knowledge. It leverages Proof-of-Work for consensus, using a novel generalized UTXO model for accounting, and a RISC-V instruction set-based virtual machine for transaction execution and smart contracts. CKB is designed for on-chain state and off-chain computation, ensuring sustainable security and decentralization. The generation layer, on the other hand, focuses on high-performance transactions and privacy protection, facilitating high scalability while maintaining security and decentralization. This layered architecture enables flexibility and interoperability among diverse Layer 2 networks without compromising security.
