Mintlayer (ML) is a layer 2 solution that aims to create a decentralized finance ecosystem based on the Bitcoin blockchain. This solution would enable the establishment of DeFi, smart contracts, atomic swaps, NFTs and dapps on Bitcoin. Mintlayer's vision is to develop a platform for deploying smart contracts on the Bitcoin blockchain, leading to the creation of a decentralized exchange. The Mintlayer protocol aims to facilitate the seamless integration of the DeFi sector with Bitcoin for real-world financial applications.
Mintlayer's unique selling point is its atomic swaps. This allows users to directly swap Native Bitcoin for tokenized assets minted on Mintlayer, eliminating the need for intermediaries or risk associated with counterparties. Furthermore, Mintlayer introduces several distinctive features such as an Access Control List (ACL) for improved compliance, multi-token transfers in a single transaction, integration with the Lightning Network for faster transactions and programmable pools. Mintlayer also provides flexibility for users to pay transaction fees with any chosen token.
