Kaspa is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency that implements the GHOSTDAG protocol. Unlike traditional blockchains, GHOSTDAG does not orphan blocks created in parallel but allows them to coexist and orders them in consensus, making Kaspa a blockDAG. This protocol generalizes Nakamoto consensus, enabling secure operation while maintaining very high block rates and minuscule confirmation times.

The Kaspa implementation includes several features, such as reachability to query the DAG's topology, block data pruning, SPV proofs, and subnetwork support for future layer 2 solutions. Kaspa operates with a block time of one second, aiming for substantially higher rates in the future. The project emphasizes decentralization, security, and high throughput while using the kHeavyHash algorithm for consensus.

Kaspa is an open-source project with no central governance, following the ethos of coins like Bitcoin and Monero. It was fair-launched without pre-mining or any other pre-allocation of coins.
