Holochain is a post-blockchain ledger system and decentralized application (dapp) platform that enables user control over data and choices, thereby distancing users from corporate control. It allows each device to have its own chain-based ledger system, meaning users are in control of their own data, making them independent of third party risk. This decentralized system gives developers the ability to create applications that can scale in different dimensions across a network, something traditional blockchains cannot provide. However, this system does carry some problems in scalability. Holochain uses Go, an easy to use programming language, and is relatively flexible towards new languages. The platform is environmentally friendly and does not require mining, thus consuming less energy than traditional blockchains. Holochain is owned by a non-profit foundation, which was built by co-founders Arthur Brock and Eric Harris-Braun.
