HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations
HIPPO is a comprehensive study that investigates cross-sections of atmospheric concentrations from the surface to the tropopause, spanning the whole globe, during different seasons over a three-year period. The project involves measuring a suite of atmospheric trace gases crucial to understanding the carbon cycle, with a focus on pole-to-pole observations. The study includes data collection across the mid-Pacific ocean, returning either over the Eastern Pacific or the Western Atlantic. This program led by Prof. Steve Wofsy from Harvard University has provided the first comprehensive global survey of atmospheric trace gases, covering the full troposphere throughout all seasons and multiple years.
