Edge is a peer-to-peer serverless infrastructure powered by blockchain technology. This infrastructure takes advantage of the spare capacity available all around to deliver serverless computing capabilities. The project aims to transform the future of cloud computing by decentralizing the ownership and benefits of the network.
Edge Network and History
Edge was founded in 2013 as a decentralized alternative to traditional cloud services. The project originally started under the name DADI (Decentralized Architecture for a Democratic Internet) and was renamed Edge in July 2019 to better reflect its evolution. The network uses blockchain technology to ensure decentralized high-performance web services.
Key Milestones
- A crowdsale was held in 2018 to raise funds for the network's development.
- The Edge testnet was launched in January 2018, followed by the mainnet in May 2018.
- The network's products such as Edge Servers, Edge DNS, and Edge CDN are live and operational.
- In 2019, Edge won the "Best Edge Computing Platform" award at the Future Digital Awards.
- Subsequent development has included the introduction of $XE coin for value transfer and the launch of a fully anonymous computing platform in 2022.
Mission and Vision
Edge's mission is to uphold the founding principles of the web by decentralizing control and giving ownership to everyone connected to the network. The vision is for the Edge Network to become the standard for the decentralized web, organized by a decentralised autonomous organisation.
