e-Money is an electronic payment system and store of value operating in the financial services industry. It is developed by Block Finance A/S, a Danish fintech company aiming to bridge traditional financial services and distributed ledger technology. e-Money intends to provide a level playing field, offering equal access to transparent financial services globally while reducing costs.
The platform is built on the Cosmos Network, allowing for interoperable, sovereign blockchains and offering benefits like liquidity and transparency. Cosmos is chosen for its powerful networking effects and scalability, making it suitable for e-Money's payment system.
e-Money stablecoins are collateralized in the same currency they represent, such as eEUR backed by Euros and eUSD backed by US dollars. These stablecoins are interest-bearing and function similarly to bank deposits. This approach provides resilience in the face of economic uncertainty and avoids the drawbacks associated with algorithmic stablecoins.
The e-Money ecosystem includes a DEX for immediate conversion between currencies with zero execution fees. The project operates with two token classes: the NGM token, used for staking and earning rewards, and the e-Money token, used for holding value.
e-Money supports various currencies, including eEUR, eCHF, and tokens backed by Scandinavian currencies. Transfers are instantaneous, with near-zero fees, and final settlements are immediate. The project has been integrated with several networks, including Ethereum and Polygon.
