The blockchain supports two crypto coins: TKG, a variable value cryptocurrency used for governance and transaction fees, and TKR(Takamaka Red), a stable coin. Half of the TKG supply was initially introduced, while the rest is to be mined from blocks generated every 30 seconds. The supply of TKR was entirely issued in the beginning and cannot be further generated.

In the system, mining nodes are decided by the amount of TKG staked on them, which functions as a voting process to determine the nodes that will create blocks for each epoch (a time period of 24000 30-second slots). Blocks can only be created by nodes assigned a specific slot, and blocks from other sources would be considered invalid.

At the start of each new epoch, transaction fees are split on a 20/80 basis between the node and the stakeholders who voted for it. Stakes do not freeze the staked amount and it can still be freely used. The stakes for the upcoming epoch are calculated by the balances at the end of the first third of the current epoch.
