GMT - Governance Token

GMT is the governance token of STEPN, which plays a crucial role in the app’s decision-making processes and has a limited supply of 6 billion tokens. Users buy and burn GMT tokens to access specific features within the app, such as upgrading high-quality sneakers or participating in governance voting. GMT initiates governance mechanisms, facilitating the democratic decision-making process within STEPN. Additionally, GMT distribution influences the allocation of net profit and protocol revenue accrual.

Functionality

STEPN integrates a marketplace where users can buy, sell, lease, or trade NFT sneakers and gems. Users can mint high-quality sneakers and upgrade gems using the GST token, which is the game's utility token and has an unlimited supply. The app features an in-app wallet with a swap function, ensuring seamless transactions. Users can engage with the app through various modes, including solo, marathon, and background modes, which provide different ways to earn tokens based on physical activity.

History

STEPN was created by Find Satoshi Lab, an Australian-based fintech studio that won the 2021 Solana Ignition Hackathon Gaming Track and is part of the DeFi Alliance Gaming cohort. STEPN raised $5 million in a seed round, which enabled the platform to take shape. It has grown significantly, motivating millions of users to adopt healthier lifestyles by integrating them with Web3 technology.
