The White Rabbit Project
The White Rabbit Project is a collaborative effort between CERN, GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, and various university and industry partners. This project aims to develop a fully deterministic Ethernet-based network for precise data transfer and sub-nanosecond accuracy time transfer.
The project provides sub-nanosecond synchronization accuracy through a combination of Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP). This allows for the delivery of high-priority messages with determinant accuracy, ensuring robustness and reliability. The White Rabbit network can be used for both timing and real-time data transfer, making it a flexible and scalable system.
