Overview of the Shimmer Network
Shimmer is a Layer 1 blockchain network designed as a staging ground for testing and validation of future innovations on the IOTA protocol. The network uses the Shimmer (SMR) token and mirrors the IOTA protocol, allowing for the creation and testing of new tools, features, and applications before they are fully operational on the IOTA mainnet. Due to its parallelized ledger built on IOTA's directed acyclic graph (DAG), Shimmer provides high-performance, feeless, and secure infrastructure for developers to create and deploy customizable and scalable smart contract chains.
