Reverse Protocol
The Reverse Protocol is a set of methods enhancing the functionality of the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) and DNS PTR records. The Reverse Protocol includes:
- Reverse ARP: Allows client machines to request their IP address from a gateway router’s ARP table.
- Inverse ARP: Maps MAC addresses to IP addresses, inverting the traditional ARP function.
- Proxy ARP: Allows devices separated by a router to resolve IP addresses to MAC addresses.
- DNS PTR Record: Maps IP addresses to domain names using reverse DNS lookups.
