REBASE is the first rebase project on Base, based on the concept introduced by Ampleforth. It aims to bring elastic supply cryptocurrencies to Base, fostering innovative DeFi products. REBASE features an elastic token supply that responds to market price changes, enabling price volatility to shift to supply volatility. This novel concept has sparked interest in the DeFi community since 2020.
Launched in August 2023 as a fair launch project, REBASE distributes 85% of its supply through Volcanos, a community reward program focused on liquidity. The project aims to become the largest rebase project on Base, driving the Onchain Summer movement and facilitating its integration into various DeFi applications.
REBASE tokens can be utilized in numerous ways, including as:
- An uncorrelated asset to the broader market
- A liquidity backstop for protocols
- A medium of exchange in DeFi
- A supply elastic layer for protocols such as Balancer, allowing for no-impermanent-loss liquidity pools
- A backstop for flatcoins like AMPL and SPOT
