The native token of Pine, $PINE, serves as a representation of governance and utility functions within the Pine protocol. It acts as the native governance token, as well as an access token and economic incentive for user participation and contribution to the Pine ecosystem. Without $PINE, there would be no incentive for users to participate in Pine-related activities. Additional $PINE is awarded to a user based on their usage, activity, and efforts.

$PINE holders have control over PineDAO, which manages the Pine protocol and platform, and they can propose and vote on on-chain governance proposals. However, $PINE holdings do not constitute an equity stake in any entity associated with Pine. The governance token will be distributed primarily to key network contributors.

Pine operates as a blockchain protocol that incentivises users to deposit assets in liquidity pools to facilitate loans. As a reward for providing liquidity, these users will be rewarded with $PINE. $PINE also functions as a loyalty membership point, with users classified into different loyalty tiers based on the amount of $PINE they hold, their activity, and transaction volume. These tiers offer exclusive perks and access rights.
