Pepecoin is a layer 1, community-focused cryptocurrency created by one of the original Dogecoin developers from 2013. It aims to replicate the sense of community and fun associated with the original Dogecoin environment. Pepecoin uses the scrypt hashing method and is merge minable with other scrypt coins, such as Litecoin and Dogecoin, starting at block 100,000. Notably, it was launched without premining, preallocation, or an Initial Coin Offering (ICO). The project's core software is open-source and community-driven, with a simple blockchain design inspired from Dogecoin Core, Bitcoin Core, and other cryptocurrencies. Pepecoin features a deflationary mechanism through token burning and a redistribution system to incentivize long-term holding. It also adheres to a no-tax policy, making it cost-effective for users.
