PEPE is a cryptocurrency project inspired by the popular internet meme, Pepe the Frog, which originated from a 2005 comic called "The Boys' Club" by Matt Furie. The project is primarily driven by the fan community, as the creators remain anonymous.
Token and Blockchain
PEPE is an ERC-20 token built on top of the Ethereum blockchain. As a result, it uses Ethereum's proof-of-stake validation for transactions, incurring Ethereum gas fees. The token's contract address is 0x6982508145454ce325ddbe47a25d4ec3d2311933.
Features and Roadmap
No additional functionality for PEPE exists beyond the standard features of cryptocurrencies, such as being a borderless, pseudonymous means of transacting value digitally. The project's roadmap includes three phases: initial launch, community partnerships and CEX listings, and a further "Pepe meme takeover" phase that will introduce merchandise, tools, and educational resources.
Ordinal PEPE ($oPepe)
In addition to its Ethereum-based token, PEPE also has a variant on the Bitcoin blockchain called Ordinal PEPE ($oPepe). This marks the first-ever Pepe on Bitcoin, mooted through creating an ordinal on Bitcoin, storing it in an Emblem Vault on Ethereum, and fractionalizing the vault to represent the ordinal as an ERC-20 token.
