The Pawthereum Foundation, formed in the Netherlands, is behind the project. Pawthereum is a fork of GRUMPY, a meme coin based on Grumpy Cat. The project was launched after the Grumpy Cat Coin project donated $70,000 in crypto funds to Sterling Animal Shelter in March 2021.
History
The Grumpy Cat Coin project was converted into Pawthereum due to a lawsuit by Grumpy Cat's owners. In 2023, Pawthereum launched PawSwap, making it easier to buy and sell PAWTH.
Donations
The project has made notable donations, including $70,000 to Sterling Animal Shelter under the Grumpy name and 26 ETH to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. There was also a matching donation of $50,000 to Four Paws USA on Giving Tuesday. Additionally, a donation valued at $50,000 was made to Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary. By July 2022, Pawthereum and its partners had raised $576,200 for animal welfare-focused charities, with $478,700 being donated directly by the Pawthereum team.
