NFTA is a public transit system operating in Buffalo, New York. It is responsible for managing and maintaining the Metro Rail system, which consists of a single 6.4-mile-long light rail line running along Main Street and serving 13 stations. The system was first opened in October 1984 and expanded to its current form by November 1986.

Metro Rail Operations

The Metro Rail operates with a fleet of 27 LRVs (Light Rail Vehicles) built by Tokyu Car Corporation (now Japan Transport Engineering Company), numbered from 101 to 127. These vehicles have a maximum service speed of 50 miles per hour but typically run at 15 miles per hour in above-ground sections.
