Loopring is a Decentralized Exchange (DEX) built on an Ethereum Layer-2 (L2) solution called zkRollup. This project combines both Automated Market Maker (AMM)-based and orderbook-based exchanges. zkRollup is an Ethereum L2 scaling solution that migrates computations off the blockchain, using the underlying Ethereum blockchain as a data layer and verification layer only. This results in high throughput of up to 2,025 trades per second and low costs of $0.00015 per trade settlement.
The Loopring protocol uses zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) to process transactions privately, allowing multiple transactions to be batched together and settled on the Ethereum blockchain as a single transaction. This method significantly reduces gas consumption and overall costs, making it suitable for high-frequency trading and other automated strategies.
The Loopring network is powered by its native utility token, LRC, which is used to pay fees for transactions, provide liquidity to the exchanges, and participate in the project's decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).
