iUSD is Cardano's first fault-tolerant and fully collateralized native stablecoin, released in November 2022 as part of Indigo Protocol v1, and is pegged to the median value of USDC, TUSD, and USDT. The Indigo Protocol is a Collateralized Debt Position (CDP) based DeFi protocol that allows users to purchase iUSD from a DEX like any other Cardano native asset, or mint iUSD within the protocol by depositing ADA as collateral. If a user’s collateral becomes worth less than the Minimum Collateralization Ratio (MCR) of their iUSD debt, the Indigo Stability Pool providers will exchange Stability Pool iUSD for the user’s higher value ADA collateral. To ensure the iUSD remains over-collateralized and the Indigo Protocol remains solvent, users deposit enough ADA that over-collateralizes their iUSD. Unique to Indigo, users can still receive their ADA staking rewards while their ADA is being used as collateral in a CDP. Decisions regarding iUSD parameters, such as whether to raise or lower the MCR, are made by the Indigo DAO.
