Interest Protocol is a decentralized fractional reserve banking protocol on the Ethereum blockchain. Launched on June 13th, 2022, it is designed to pay interest to all depositors.
Interest Protocol is a decentralized fractional reserve banking protocol on the Ethereum blockchain. Launched on June 13th, 2022, it is designed to pay interest to all depositors.
Integral to the protocol is USDi, an over-collateralized stablecoin that can be minted by depositing USDC into the protocol. Users can also receive USDC by burning their USDi holdings. Additionally, users can deposit assets into a multi-collateral vault and borrow USDi against that collateral.
Every USDi holder earns yield without needing to stake their tokens, providing a convenient and accessible interest-earning mechanism. Interest Protocol is capable of generating more loans with less liquidity risk compared to existing lending protocols due to its fractional reserve design.
The protocol automatically manages its reserve ratio, defined as the ratio of USDC in the reserve to the total supply of USDi. This management is achieved through a variable interest rate system, which adjusts borrow and deposit rates based on changes in the reserve ratio.
IPT Token Overview
IPT is the governance token of Interest Protocol. Initially, there are 100 million IPT tokens in existence, with 20% reserved in the protocol treasury. The token holders can collectively decide to mint additional IPT tokens through governance proposals.
Interest Protocol was developed by GFX Labs, a company formed in 2021 to build web 3 applications focused on ownership and usability.
