INSF stands for SF Symbols, which are high-quality, Apple-designed symbols created to integrate seamlessly with the San Francisco system font on all Apple platforms.

The Basics

• Symbols are designed to work next to text from any SF family and are vertically centered with a cap height.
• The text baseline is used as a flexible guide to optically balance the shape of the symbol with the text.
• Symbols come in three sizes: small, medium (default), and large. All sizes align vertically, with small symbols appearing about 20% smaller than the medium size and large symbols appearing about 30% bigger.
• The small symbols appear lighter, and the large symbols appear bolder, but there are weight compensations that maintain the same stroke thickness to ensure the symbols look weight-matched with text.

Usage Tips

• SF Symbols are supported on macOS starting from macOS Big Sur.
• To copy the name of a symbol, use ⇧+⌘+C.
• To change the scale of a symbol, set the UIImage's SymbolConfiguration.
• Use SwiftUI's Label to ensure the symbol and text remain in sync.
• Symbols can be added directly into Text, and some symbols have been renamed.
• Use the baseline alignment when laying symbols next to text, and use vertical alignment guides for harmonious growth when text is resized.
