Forta
Forta is a decentralized, community-based detection network designed for real-time security and operational monitoring of blockchain activity. It encompasses various aspects of Web3 systems, including DeFi, NFT, governance, and bridges. The network aims to provide timely alerts to users about potential risks and threats, enabling them to react quickly and prevent or minimize financial losses.
Components
The Forta Network has two primary components:
- Detection Bots: These are scripts that identify malicious activities or anomalies in transactions and smart contract state changes on various blockchain platforms.
- Scan Nodes: These are responsible for running the detection bots against each block of transactions. When a threat is detected, the nodes emit alerts that are stored on InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).
Functionality
- Protocols, DAOs, investors, and individuals can subscribe to Forta's data feeds to monitor transactions and receive alerts on security, financial, operational, and governance-related events. Alerts can be accessed through the Forta App, OpenZeppelin Defender, or directly via the Forta API.
- Scan nodes and detection bots are secured and governed by Forta's smart contracts and the FORT utility token.
- Detection bot quality can be validated by users and community members. Malicious or inadequately performing detection bots are disabled.
Security Measures
- Scan nodes must provide proof of scan for every block, ensuring community monitoring and verification.
- Nodes are incentivized through staking to maintain their operability and detect threats reliably.
- Malicious or underperforming scan nodes can be disabled to ensure network integrity.
Future Development
The Forta Foundation encourages developers to build and integrate new detection bots and security tools, which can be run on the Forta Network to enhance threat intelligence and prevent attacks.
