Overview of EdenLoop
EdenLoop is a project developed by Williams, a natural gas company, as part of the larger Southeast Supply Enhancement project. The Southeast Supply Enhancement project aims to expand the capacity of the Transco pipeline system, which spans from Texas to New York. EdenLoop, specifically, involves the installation of approximately 26 miles of new 42-inch-diameter pipeline in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and Rockingham County, North Carolina.
Project Details
The EdenLoop segment is part of a broader expansion plan to increase the Transco system’s capacity by nearly 1.6 million dekatherms of gas per day, which is enough to supply 8.6 million homes. The pipeline expansion will provide reliable natural gas deliveries to cities across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions, meeting the growing residential, commercial, and industrial demand.
The project involves a process called "looping," where new pipeline segments are added parallel to existing main lines to increase the system’s capacity. This method allows for efficient expansion while utilizing existing facilities and rights of way. Most affected landowners in Pittsylvania County have already been notified, as the new pipeline will be installed adjacent to the existing Transco corridor, which has been operating since the 1950s.
Public Involvement
A public scoping session has been announced to gather input from the public and interested agencies regarding the project. This process is part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review, which aims to focus the environmental analysis on key issues raised by the public. Public comments are being accepted until June 6, 2024, and will be considered during the preparation of the environmental document.
