Terra is a blockchain protocol and payment platform created to facilitate the use of algorithmic stablecoins. The project was founded in 2018 by Terraform Labs, a startup co-founded by Do Kwon and Daniel Shin. Terra was initially known for its TerraUSD stablecoin and the associated LUNA reserve asset cryptocurrency. However, in May 2022, the Terra blockchain was halted following the collapse of TerraUSD and LUNA, which led to significant market capitalization losses. Despite this setback, the team relaunched Terra as Terra 2.0, with a new focus on using LUNA for staking, digital art, and fee payments.
