Cat-in-a-Box is a lending protocol that self-stabilizes by incentivizing the conversion of debt from users with unhealthy loans into buying pressure for the system's borrowable asset. This process supports the value of the soft-pegged synthetic asset to ensure it remains attractive to borrow.
The Cat-in-a-Box Fee Token, denoted by the symbol BOXFEE, plays a significant role in the protocol. It can be staked to earn a portion of the fee income generated by user deposits. The tokenomics of BOXFEE involves staking, where users accrue rewards in the form of the borrowable asset, boxETH. Platform fees, which start at 1% and can increase up to 25% based on the global system debt, are used to reward stakeholders.
BOXFEE tokens can also be burned within the protocol to guarantee a minimum value for holders who require exit liquidity. The minimum value backing accrues over time as BOXFEE tokens are bought through the protocol. Users known as Resolvers contribute to the backing by paying fees using boxETH, which are used to buy BOXFEE tokens and send them to the protocol treasury multisig.
In the Cat-in-a-Box ecosystem, BOXFEE holders have the option to exit by burning their tokens at any time without any vesting or minimum lock-up period. This flexibility allows holders to manage their exposure to the protocol’s fee income and exit liquidity.
