History

BLUE teams originated as part of the United States computer security defense initiative. They were developed in response to red teams, which were designed to simulate malicious attacks. The blue team's role was to design and implement defensive strategies against these simulated attacks.

Incident Response

In the event of a security incident, BLUE teams follow a six-step process:

Operating System Hardening

To prepare for potential security incidents, BLUE teams perform hardening techniques on all operating systems within the organization.

Perimeter Defense

BLUE teams maintain a strong focus on the network perimeter, encompassing traffic flow, packet filtering, proxy firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.

Tools

The BLUE team employs a wide range of tools to detect attacks, collect forensic data, analyze information, and make adjustments to prevent future threats. These tools include various log management and analysis software, such as AlienVault and Splunk, as well as SIEM systems that support real-time data collection and analysis.
