Abelian is a Layer 1 Blockchain system designed to be both quantum resistant and privacy preserving. It is based on lattice-based post-quantum cryptosystems, specifically CRYSTALS-Dilithium and Kyber, which have been chosen by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as post-quantum cryptographic national standards. This ensures that Abelian's cryptographic systems can defend against attacks by future powerful quantum computers.
Abelian's privacy features are centered around its native token, ABEL. ABEL can be used with different levels of privacy, including full privacy, privacy with accountability, and pseudonymity. Full privacy ensures that both sender and receiver wallet addresses, along with the transaction amounts, remain protected. Accountability allows users to share trapdoor information with a third party for transparency while maintaining full privacy against the public. Pseudonymity provides similar anonymity assurance as Bitcoin.
Abelian is also the world's first provably secure Blockchain system, with both security and privacy being mathematically reduced to well-known quantum-resistant hard problems. Additionally, the Proof-of-Work (POW) mechanism is compatible with that of Ethereum 1.0 and is GPU-friendly, making it suitable for mining rigs and farms that previously supported Ethereum 1.0 mining.
The Abelian ecosystem extends beyond its Layer 1 POW post-quantum Blockchain network. It aims to support other Blockchain systems, including major EVM-equivalent Blockchains, to protect them against quantum attacks by applying Abelian's lattice-based zero-knowledge proof systems.
